Trend Alert: Sport-Luxe
The last couple of seasons have seen an influx of designers embracing a more utilitarian approach to fashion. Granted, Celine’s leather t-shirts and towering clogs from Phoebe Philo’s SS10 collection for the brand are by no means the kind of get-up you’d go rock-climbing in, but they forced the fashion industry to sit up and take notice of sportswear touches as a valid means of quiet expression for designers.
As the London fashion pack begin swapping their tight-and-leathery’s for tracky bottoms, buyers at leading luxury retailers have begun to take a chance on designers who trumpet this trend through wearable and luxorious sportswear.
In the menswear corner, Christopher Shannon – serial collaborator and Rebok consultant – produces season after season of vivid sportswear most recently collaborating with Eastpack on some vivid, 1980s-inspired rucksacks. Grab one of his super-fun tracksuits from Topman.
