Bart B More once played a set to a cave full of Neanderthals

Bart B More is responsible for making one of this summer’s dirtiest, catchiest tracks. Brap is a relentless wall of bass paired with the ultimate bit of garage boy chav slang. Sounds like it should be horrid, but actually it sounds like the tune you’ve been waiting to hear since you went out. Actually, sod that, since you got up. Now signed to Boys Noize Records, Kara Simsek had a quick chat with him…

Notion: Who are you and where are you from?
Bart B More: I’m Bart van der Meer also known as Bart B More and I’m from Castricum a small town near Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Notion: OK, so where are you based now?
Bart B More: I live in Utrecht in the Netherlands.

Notion: How did you start out?
Bart B More: My older brothers got me into house music and it didn’t take long before I started buying records, play them out and eventually started producing music.

Notion: So how did you end up on BNR?
Bart B More: I made the record ‘Brap’ and thought it would maybe be something for Boys Noize to play. So I send it to him and he loved it and started playing it in every set. Eventually he asked me if he could release it on his label.

Notion: Who are your biggest inspirations?
Bart B More: There are too many to list.

Notion: Um, ok, being more specific, The Netherlands is associated with lots of fantastic electronic and techno music – who is your favourite home grown hero?
Bart B More: I have a lot of respect for Laidback Luke. He has always helped me out and guided me through the early stages of my career. Besides that he’s an amazing DJ and producer.

Notion: Do you prefer to produce your own tracks or remix other people’s?
Bart B More: In the end my goal is to make good music.

Notion: So what’s coming up next?
Bart B More: There are collaborations coming up with Harvard Bass, Brodinski, Tommie Sunshine and Nom de Strip and remixes for Miike Snow, Fierce Ruling Diva and Dem Slackers.

Notion: Nice! If you sang at a karaoke night what would you sing?
Bart B More: Something like The Killers or Editors, sing a long stuff!

Notion: Give us some inside info – what song(s) do you think are going to be huge over the next few months?
Bart B More: I think that Magnetic Man single ‘I Need Air’ is gonna be huge.

Notion: Any tips for exciting producers or DJs that Notion readers should look out for?
Bart B More: How about Noob, Harvard Bass, Djedjotronic, Canblaster ? love their stuff!

Notion: I stayed in a strange caravan park near Utrecht – it was called Camp Lucky Lake, there were paper mache hippos and crocs littered around and it was run by religious Americans – where’s the strangest place you’ve ever been?
Bart B More: Wow, I never heard of this place, I have to check it out! Weirdest club I’ve ever played was a fake cave and a lot of people were dressed up like Neanderthals, super weird!

Notion: Sounds like the religious Americans… In all your promo photos you look happy and fun-loving. What’s your favourite joke?
Bart B More: I hope I am, I try to enjoy life and have fun as much as possible. I know a lot of jokes in Dutch, but the ones I know in English are probably going to offend people so let’s not do that haha

Notion: Hmmm, might be for the best, we’re quite highly strung! What does the B stand for in your name?
Bart B More: Nothing really, it just sounded cool haha

Well we haven’t got ‘NE MORE’ questions… Thanks Bart!
