Dance. Dance ‘til you’re dead: Chunky Move
The light-hearted name belies the breathtaking performances by Australian inter-media dance troupe Chunky Move. In the melding of cutting edge lighting technology with contemporary dance, Chunky Move has succeeded in creating a series of truly intoxicating dance pieces.
Founded in 1995 by multi-award winning choreographer Gideon Obarzanek (now it’s creative director), Chunky Move now collaborate with cream of the crop from the global dance community. Their influence is far reaching and has begun to permeate the uppermost echelons of popular culture (most recently the music video for Kylie Minogue’s latest single).
With influence like this and with the popularity of their work on You Tube we hope that they’ll come to Europe soon. There’s certainly a demand for it here at Planet Notion. Their latest work, Mortal Engine, describes the minutia and grandeur of the cycle of life and death in a rhapsody of movement and light. It’s well worth a watch.
