One of London’s great New Generation of designers, Roksanda Ilincic is the name to drop in fashion circles. Her dresses are floaty and feminine but still retain that element of feistiness that is so difficult to capture. Her SS2011 collection was no disappointment. With floor-length silk evening gowns and light, chiffony dresses, Ilincic went full-on glamour with this series of looks – lightweight overlaid sheer layers and glossy silks in gorgeous silvery-greys and creamy golds were showstoppers, but the highlight for us was Ilincic’s use of peacock blue silk for loose tunics, belted dresses and sailor trousers. An utterly gorgeous colour/material combo that contributed to the collection’s overall 1970s – dare we say Halston-esque, Carrie in later series’ of SATC – feel. With pleats, occasional light embellishments, ruching and acres of drapery, the collection was all about the materials: quality fabric + generous cutting = a luscious, luxe look. Accessorised with oversized, glamorous headscarves and the occasional silk waistband bow, Roksanda Ilincic’s collection was an absolute festival of new-school glamour.
