EXCLUSIVE: Download Marina Gasolina’s New Single, ‘Leone’

After courting controversy with Brazilian baile funk stars Bondo do Rolê since 2006, Marina Gasolina broke free of the relentless touring schedule and increasing commericality of the band, leaving them to pick up new frontwomen  through a reality TV show, while she forged ahead solo. After a couple of years of gathering her thoughts in London, Marina has formed her own record company – the controversy-inspired Anfetamina Records – and released rather catchy debut single.

Produced by Etienne Tron of Radioclit and Berlin DJ-meister Electronicat (Marina’s not short on stellar creative collaborators), ‘Leone’ is an off-kilter, electronica-tinged homage to Spaghetti Westerns; think Sergio here, rather than Lewis. Squelching, rolling electrosynth opens the track, and once the urgent, rolling drumbeat kicks in, there are echoes of galloping hooves, deserts and Clint Eastwood in a poncho. Imagine Daft Punk soundtracking a Western, rather than Ennio Morricone. Marina has given the track her distinctive vocal drawl; lithe, nonchalant and glistening with vengeful anger, ‘Leone’ is feisty like a cornered lynx. The record, released 29th November, precedes a series of live dates across London (below) and the track is sure to be popping up all over the place over the next few months; remember though, you found it here first.
