Video & Mixtape: Swimming ‘Sun In the Island’

The snow might have melted away, but the magical Christmassy atmosphere remains in my memory at least. There’s something very ethereal and cleansing about snow; and not just visually, but aurally too – it dampens sound, freezing it into an icy sarcophagus and giving it a distinctive hollow padding. Midlands band Swimming found the perfect place to harness this, the Skyscape art installation in Kielder forest. Described by the artist James Turrell as making sure there is “no-one between you and your experience”, the Swimming lads decided to make a trip there in December to record a very special Binaural video version of their new single ‘Sun in the Island.’ It is, very simply put, beautiful.

They’ve also put together a downloadable mixtape of their favourite tunes, which we’ve had #ontheNotionstereo for a few days now; and it’s the perfect wintry soundtrack. So sit back, enjoy and dream of snow with the Swimming boys.

Swimming’s new single, Sun In The Island will be released on East Village Records this February.
