Album Review: Robag Wruhme – WUPPDECKMISCHMAMPFLOW
The world needs more Robag Wruhme- particularly when this drunken master of minimal house turns out to be a hairy guy living in the hills with a pig and a jar of gherkins. I know, that’s what I was thinking; oinks and pickled cucumbers, beards and spell-checks, you must be barking mad matey. In fact, for a moment there, I actually thought I was, especially when I typed Wuppdeckmischmampflow into an online translator only for it to reveal it’s meaning was a somewhat familiar looking Wuppdeckmischmampflow.
Maybe it means “pork and pickle recipes“ in East German? Which would make this album a feast of the unusual. And, unsurprisingly, it is, with Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts for starters, Tiefschwarz and Chateau Flight for mains, and Zwanie Jonson ending the mix as a dessert. YUM YUM. Although what’s slightly unexpected is that this is an intmiate piece of music from Robag Wruhme, yes, that man with pickle breath, but here we’re presented with an incredibly personal selection of happy memories. Gone are the nights of vodka-swigging, tanz tanz techno, from the Wighnomy Brothers, and in go the days of a warm, experimental, ambient blend of house music; indicative of a producer based away from the hectic nights of Berlin. It’s a godsend, especially if you’re the kind of person to be waking up the morning after such parties, which happens to become available as a natural remedy for the techno world on January 17th (Kompakt).
If, however, it’s tanz tanz you want, then perhaps I’ll create an unadulterated, x-rated, party version called Hobag Huhme. Expect slutwavers on vox and a phat beat that would rupture your diaphragm. Is there a market for that? Otherwise keep your eyes peeled for the new full length studio album from Robag Wruhme coming out on DJ Koze’s Pampa Records in late Spring.
