LFW: Bora Aksu

Bora Aksu’s cocktail dresses have become an institution in themselves. Short skirts, heavy detailing and mixed fabrics is the signature of the Aksu look, and the AW11 collection did not disappoint in this regard. In fact, it excelled. Aksu proved that sticking to a simple colour palette of silvers and greys, with an occasional shot of emerald green – can be exciting, intriguing and bloody gorgeous. The mix of fabrics was sublime; sheer tulles layered over tailored knitted pieces, skirts with that beuatiful emerald highlighting, silks, cutaways and detailed tights mixed with harder materials like leathers and what looked like Tyvek – a stiff, paper-based material that complimented beautifully the softer, floatier pieces. Aksu’s dresses are renowned, but this season, she seamlessly integrated separates to this combination; short, nipped-in jackets and statement tulip skirts (again in that gorge green) made the collection a standout of Friday for all the right reasons, with pieces running the gamut of statement event dresses, luxe daywear and leather body armour that would make any shoot shine.
