LFW: Christopher Shannon

Christopher Shannon’s sportswear meets catwalk chic aesthetic is solidified
in the minds of the LFW menswear day faithful: prints, pastels and panelling
are the indicators, and Shannon stuck to what he knows best with his AW11
offering. Mixing quilted trousers with Latin American-inspired embroidered
stripes, Shannon carried the themes of his collection over to his
wildly-successful Eastpak rucksack collaboration line, making them very
covetable indeed. Models (I’m assuming non-professionla; they looked faintly terrifying) swaggered down the catwalk in wintereised versions of Shannon’s SS11 collection; the patchwork jumpers and loud prints being thicker and strewn with nylon rather than mesh cotton. Nylon ruffle trousers were a questionable, if brave choice, but it was again Shannon’s use of Peruvian-style embroidery and colour-pop belts that really pleased the eye – a shot of colour in AW is always a bonus. Accessories included lovely,
brightly-patterned shows and some ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ scarves that
would go down fantastically in his native Liverpool. Overall, a strong
showing, with a subtle evolution of the look, but some messy fabrics and
overdone detailing took away from the handcrafted feel.
