LFW: Holly Fulton
Watching a Holly Fulton show is like watching a theatre performance, with a twist. Fulton’s playful designs satisfy the eye’s need for colour, shapes and theatrical jewellery. The Autumn/Winter collection for this year is inspired by the power of seduction, love and romance. This sounds cheesy, and it kind of is, but in the best possible way. I’m talking a dress with lines and lines of pursed lips- ready to puck- matching trousers are of course available. The lips don’t stop there, not only do they reappear on most of the accessories (an extra pair of lips on one’s ear is always handy), but also feature on a swinging sixties shaped dress sucking all the juice out from a straw which has been popped into the Rockafella Building. Kitsch? Yes. The kind of kitsch you want to wear all winter to keep your spirits up on those cold nights.
Although this collection wasn’t dissimilar to her last seasons work in terms of shapes and prints, it is clear that Fulton is creating a strong signature look for herself, on which she will build her brand.
