LFW: Mark Fast

Infamous for his use of plus-size (in this case, we’re talking size 10,
rather than size 4) models, rather than his clothes per se, Mark Fast’s
collection continued to evolve his signature look of wool with cutaways.
Showcasing everything from cosy architectural coats to barely there teased
woollen dresses, Fast’s collection was a symphony of knitwear, in unusual
forms and shapes. The dresses are glamorous, but somehow never quite
exciting enough to make them showstoppers; there’s something that’s
restrained about them which makes them a double-edged sword for Fast.
Nonetheless, he played round with the ever-present leather and fur to
varying degrees of success, and inserted a few shots of red and orange into
the predominantly beige and black range. It wasn’t the world’s most
thrilling collection to be honest, but it establishes Fast as an eminently
competent designer; I just want to see him push the boundaries a little
more. However, it’s always nice to see a model who looked like she’d had
more than us for lunch, for a change though, and long may this continue.
