LFW: Todd Lynn

In case our Tweets had escaped your notice, it’s bloody freezing at LFW this
season. The cold waits outside of shows (alas we do not get whisked straight
in – slebs we ain’t) and a bitter breeze have taken effect on the
fashionisti of Somerset House, and we’re all covering into our thick coats
and woolly scarves rather than parading around in shorts. Todd Lynn’s
signature look this season echoed this: buried in fur mufflers, funnel-neck
coats and thick dark wool, he showed a look that all LFW attendees have
sported over the past few days – attempting to be warm. His minimalist style
of cutting is clean and sharp – it reminded me of Klingon armour, the
sleeveless leather coats with asymmetric, sharp fastenings, and leather
gauntlets. It was a wearable collection of outerwear, knitwear and lovely,
lovely trousers from Lynn; one that took some of the Italo Zucchelli at
Calvin Klein glamour and twisted it obliquely. Men’s looks echoed womens,
and the scarlet highlight was picked up in the red soles of the footwear:
Louboutin, natch. Natural materials dominated, with fur and leather mixing
with skintight cotton trousers. The minimal cutting overcame any of the
limitations of the materials though, and Todd Lynn proved that sticking to a
safe palette of monochromes needn’t be completely dull.
