Amazing Video Alert: Brandt Brauer Frick- ‘Caffeine’

The new video- for the song entitled ‘Caffeine’- by the K7! signed acoustico-tronic group Brandt Brauer Frick, is literally bloody amazing. When it wasn’t possible to quite put our finger on what exactly the video reminded us of, we had office opinions ranging from the old school video game ‘Lemmings’, to the Iranian animated feature ‘Persepolis’, Fritz Lang’s seminal film ‘Metropolis’ and Revolutionary Road.

Brandt Brauer Frick’s “bag” is creating electronic music using acoustic instruments, using everything from grand pianos to drum stick clicks. There are many bands at the moment creating electronically influenced music through acoustic means, but few of their offerings really sound like proper electronic music, whereas ‘Caffeine’ does. The music’s tense, brooding, and perfectly encapsulates the sonic experience of the everyman navigating the overcrowded urban metropolis.

BBT wanted to reinforce their musical aesthetic with the track’s video. Here’s their take on it: “As acoustic sounds are put together electronically, hand drawn images are animated by traditional and computer media. We wanted to make a parallelism with the music: analogue drawing + analogue instruments/mechanical aesthetics + mechanical rhythms”

Acoustic, electric, modern, traditional…we say, WHATEVS. Have a listen and enjoy the hypnotic effect of both the song and video for Brandt Brauer Frick’s ‘Caffeine’:
