Stream from our BOTW: Psychologist’s ‘Waves of OK’ EP
After playing a wonderful premiere gig by candlelight at St. Matthias church in Stoke Newington on Wednesday, which fittingly finished with a beautiful choral cover of Madonna’s ‘Like a Prayer’, we’re even more besotted with Psychologist than before.
His debut EP, ‘Waves of OK’, is a collection of minimalist singer-songwriter tracks, cinematic in scope, all bound together by the haunting fragility of Iain Woods’ voice. Subtle electronics underpin grand piano swells and multi-layered falsetto vocals. Plus, the last song- ‘Song to the Siren’-sounds a bit like the closing credits track from Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, though (according to a friend of Iain) is always compared to The Lion King. How wrong they all are.
