Designer Profile: Charlotte Taylor

Charlotte Taylor’s career as a designer took off when she was named Vauxhall Fashion Scout’s One to Watch for Spring/Summer 2010 on the strength of her second collection for her eponymous label. Since then, she has continued to filter brave, individual prints (think penguins and elephants) through strong silhouettes with a vintage feel. Autumn/Winter 2011 features more bold print and is inspired by the colours and shapes of Africa, Hungarian Gypsy and English heritage.

Design background: Studied at Central St. Martin’s, has experience working at Marcus Constable, Frost French and Luella.

Signature style: Bold, quirky print and androgyny fused with British elegance.

What is your proudest career moment to date?
It has just happened and I can’t quite say yet but will announce soon!

What is your ultimate goal for the future?
To be sold all over the world and to have multiple sections of the label, i.e. I would love to develop swimwear, sportswear, childrenswear and menswear!

Which of your creations/collections has stood out the most for you?
The most recent. It is to me by far the strongest. It has a real identity.

What is your greatest source of inspiration?
Anything old.

What is the best lesson you’ve learned since starting out in fashion?
Design for yourself, go with your gut and don’t run before you can walk.

You can keep up with Charlotte on her blog and her website.
