Designer Profile: Olivia Rubin
Olivia Rubin’s party dresses and now famous brick print have been gracing the world of high fashion, celebrity and high street alike since her first collection. Collaborations with Asos, oli.co.uk, very.co.uk and Dune bring her designs to a wider audience while the stamp of approval from the likes of Vogue and Grazia maintain her cred with the fashion forward.
Design background: Studied at Central St Martins, worked with Alexander McQueen and John Galliano before starting her own label.
Signature style: Bold, graphic print.
Planet Notion: What is your proudest career moment to date?
Olivia Rubin: There have been many but I’d have to say building up my brand as a business and being stocked in approx 50 stores in the UK and internationally.
PN: Ultimate goal for the future?
OR: To continue growing the label and expand in certain areas such as swimwear etc. We will be launching our first knitwear mini range for AW11-watch this space!
PN: Which of your creations/collections has stood out the most for you?
OR: It would have to be my first SS08 range for the label! It represented the essence of what I wanted the label to be and my signature print-the brick print was born in that collection.
PN: What is your greatest source of inspiration?
OR: Modern art and everyday life.
PN: What is the best lesson you’ve learned since starting out in fashion?
OR: Be prepared for criticism and a lot of hard work. If you aren’t thick skinned and 200% committed then having your own label/business is not for you!
