Introducing Band of the Week: Plant Plants

Google Plant Plants and you’ll get a lot of tips on how to improve your garden, tack on band and it’s all results about Robert Plant. Perhaps not the most google-friendly band name to ever be thought up. But, Plant Plants is worth the extra lurking until you find the few blogs that have already caught onto their amazing sound. So who are Plant Plants?  They are friends, Stuart Francis and Howard Whatley, based in Hackney, London.

The duo came together through a mutual love of film scores, heavy beats, and weird guitar tunings, all which can be heard in their own music in various shades. They cite everything from the Wickerman soundtrack to Wu-Tang to Baths as influences for their unique sound of melodic electronica, and it was that sound caught the attention of blogs like, My Band’s Better Than Your Band and BlindFun before they even had their first live performance. Which isn’t too much of a surprise once you start listening to Plant Plants with their guitars, synths, and use of everyday sounds (‘Hands that Sleep’ features a mash up of doors slamming to create a drum-like effect.), they create a truly unique listening experience, and become difficult to place in any one genre.

They’ve come along away since their first mentions online though, with gigs around London, that are a true delight, as the two have decided to go sans computers and instead utilise over 15 effect peddles, guitars, and duo vocals to recreate their recorded music in a truly organic live. Add on an EP produced by Simian Mobile Disco’s Jas Shaw, and the two are ready to grow into the next big thing!
