Top of the Shops – Luna & Curious

When I was about twelve, there was a shop in a not-very-trendy corner of West London that my friends and I used to visit on our way home from school, turning trinkets over in our hands and declaring ‘I want one of these in my house when I grow up’. Fast forward to 2011 and Luna and Curious has replaced my schoolgirl haunt as my whimsical shopping destination of choice.

Stocking an irresistible mix of kitsch and edgy product, almost every object in the store warrants a double take. From porcelain ‘cress heads’ by Polly George to macabre yet charming pendants by Momocreatura everything is something unusual, something you want to have. Equally, walking around the store you find yourself matching items on the shelves with friends in your head such is the individual appeal of the selection.

Prices are sometimes high, but there is plenty of affordable product including one of the top current recommendations from Luna HQ: false eyelashes from Paperself and DJ duo Broken Hearts. The intricate lashes feature seahorses on a coral reef, encapsulating the glamour and daring of the shop in one little product.
