Bjork: Biophilia App
Known for outlandish outfits and singing in the dark, Björk is continuing to unveil her latest project: Biophilia.
To give you an overview of the project, the word describes an innate love for the natural world, supposed to be felt universally by humankind. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that for this multi-media project, Björk consulted scientists, writers, inventors, musicians and instrument makers to help it all come together.
The project is made up of five elements; the album, the live shows, a documentary, a website, and of course, an App. The App is free and consists of and introduction to the project, interactive elements, and the first audio-visual feature: ‘Cosmogony’.
Each ‘feature’ has it’s own theme, and thereby links a song (the music feature) with a natural element of nature.
But wait, there’s a lot more.
Each feature in the App will also include a game (based on the song’s scientific and musical subject matter), a musical animation of the song, lyrics, and if you’ve still got time: an academic essay. Each section of each feature is hoped to help the user interact with musical elements and laern about different musical elements, all the while being able to create their own version. Furthermore, the animations are aimed at visually representing music in an innovating way.
Thus, the Biophilia Project is hoping to allow us to feel the supposed ‘innate’ love with all the natural aspects of music, which have been especially created for us to listen to.
The Biophilia App is available free from the App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, or click here to download it. For free!
