The Hautelist #22: Aussie style

Unless you’re a GAP year brat, when someone mentions Australia your thought process probably goes a little something like this…Neighbours…Kylie…Kylie & Jason…Rolf Harris… boomerangs…that night in the Walkabout bar you’d rather forget….

Despite Sass&Bide showing in London every season, there’s still a general consensus amongst us Brits that Aussies don’t really ‘do’ fashion.  Well that’s all about to change, as this season there’s a flurry Down Under fashion brands about to hit our shores and rock your socks off.  Here’s our hautelist of 3 of the best…

The Hipster brand…

Us Brits tend to think we own the blueprint to cool-kid fashion, but Aussie brand Finders Keepers (above) may have a thing of two to teach us.  With a collection packed to the brim with asymmetrical hem’s, cheeky cut-out details, and of-the-moment statement backs, they tick all the sartorial statement (in a crazy, sexy, cool rather than Gaga-esque kinda way) boxes.  Count us in.

Available at Harvey Nichols from October, and Asos from November. Prices are £70- £200.

Chic and quirky…

The brainchild (or should that be lovechild) of Aussie superwoman (mother, wife, designer, ex-model etc) Gil Lawrence, Toi et Moi’s Parisian vibe is thanks to the influence of her French husband.  Think super-cute, easy to wear, playful little skirts, dresses, t-shirts and jackets, all with that flirty French I-just-threw-this-together nonchalance.  Our new girl-about-town go-to brand.

Cruise collection available at Harvey Nicks from November.  Prices are £40 to £150

Shoes with ‘tude…

It’s not often that a new shoe brand with both quality and style hits the scene, so when it does it’s time to pay attention.  Sydney based Senso specialise in shoes stand-out shoes.  From super-high pink leopard print wedges to their current Miu Miu-esque glitter range, these are shoes with something to say.  Our particular faves are their slipper style pumps which come in a huge range of coloured pony skins adorned with studs, spikes and crests.  We. Want. Now.

Senso are stocked by Village Bicycle boutique and online at Karmaloop.
