Robert Roope: Black Eyewear

Designers get their inspiration from a variety of places – travelling the world for six months, looking at paintings, looking at nothing but a blank sheet of paper… in the case of Yorkshire born Robert Roope, jazz music and the 1950s acted as his stimulus. Drawing on the designs of the 1950s/60s, his “Black Eyewear” collection pays homage to the greatest Jazz musicians of that era – Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Duke Ellington etc. With more than 50 designs of sunglasses (and glasses) each in a variety of colours, they’re exceedingly contemporary in the current fashion – and indeed beyond. These are our top 5:

Benny: Retro 50s style sunglasses named after the 20th Century Jazz Great Benny Goodman (1909-1986)

Coltrane: Retro 50s style sunglasses named after the 20th Century Jazz Great John Coltrane (1926-1967), jazz saxophonist.

Emily: These frames are dedicated to Jazz Great Emily Remier (1957–1990), guitarist.

Gigi: Dedicated to Jazz Great Gigi Gryce (1925-1983), alto saxophonist.

Monk: Retro 50s style sunglasses named after the 20th Century Jazz Great Theolonius Monk (1920-1982), jazz pianist.

Worn by the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Idris Elba, and Paloma Faith, grab yourself a pair whilst the sun’s still shining!
