LFW: MAN – Show Report

It’s the final day of LFW SS12 and in my opinion one of the most exciting. Aside from the abundance of male models littering Somerset House, looking at new ways to create and challenge menswear is (almost) more exciting than a week of womenswear fashion. Today’s MAN show featuring the great talent of Matthew Miller, Martine rose and Shaun Samson didn’t disappoint. Matthew sent clean, lovely simplicity swaggering down the runway. Miller’s interpretation of what is suitable in a masculine wardrobe in today’s society couldn’t be more suitable. White and sheer sportswear with flashes of bright details (it’s always in the details) made a collection that any man could do pretty much anything in.

Martine Rose focused on layering in keeping with her signature innovative use of fabrics, evoking a sense of freedom in its wearers. Martine created a colourful collection exploring seventies Californian culture. Loose fitting shorts were layered over trousers, almost creating the illusion of dresses and skirts, which further blurs the lines between masculinity and femininity. Martine sent girls down the runway dressed in her menswear – a bright colourful collection that fills us with nothing less than hope for the future of menswear.

Check back here to see Shaun Samson talk to Planet Notion about his collection.
