Semibreve Preview
The Monastery of Tibães is about to become the stunning, and somewhat surprising, setting for a new music and arts festival. Not the sort of place you would expect to play host a digital arts festival, the Monastery is lending itself to the first outing of the Semibreve Festival, taking place in November in Braga. Lectures and conferences to educate us in the field of art-applied technology will be given in the Monastery, while the similarly magnificent Theatro Circo will become the heart of the festival.
A seriously electric line-up of leading electro artists has just been announced, including an exclusive performance by Taylor Deupree and Stephan Mathieu of that most excellent 2009 album Transcriptions. Joining them are the likes of the Mexican minimalist Murcof, Alva Noto, Jon Hopkins of Imogen Heap keyboard fame and Fennesz, to name but a few.
Complementing the techno sounds, there will be also be installations and works on show in the Theatro Circo, courtesy of the graphics and IT whizz kids from the University of Minho.
