Karhu Originals Launches At London’s Foot Patrol

Providing technical running and outdoor gear since 1916, Finnish brand Karhu has a deep rooted heritage in designing avant-garde footwear, having invented the first ever air cushioned shoe would you believe? Their designs are sleek, standout practicality for those who appreciate revolutionary footwear.

So when we learnt the brand was coming to London we probably let out a yelp several decibels too high. And to celebrate Karhu Originals’ first season at Foot Patrol, West London, the brand is inviting you all to teleport back in time to visit the evolution of Karhu at an exhibition in the store. Expect a spectacular showcase of the brand’s vintage products – from the 40’s Three Stripe Spike, to the 60’s Weightlifting Shoe and the 80’s Snowjogger – to name just a few.

What better way to spend some free time than marvelling at revolutionary shoes? We’re totally game. And not that you lot need much coercing to visit a shoe shop/cultural exhibition, but just in case, here’s some more stimulating facts about Karhu’s innovations that will surely surprise and intrigue.

- Back in the 80s Karhu’s most innovative breakthrough was ‘Falcrum technology’, which in layman’s terms means creating a shoe that makes you move forward through a natural path as fast and as safe as possible. Your Nikes totally pale in comparison now, right?

- Several Olympic medals were achieved at the 1952 games using Karhu’s Three Stripe shoes.

- Karhu was known as ‘The Three Striped’ brand in the 40s but by the 50s they sold their trademark to Adidas for two bottles of good whiskey and about 1600€. Gee these guys sound like our kinda brand.

The exhibition will open after its special preview on November 16th, which is from 6-9pm at Foot Patrol, 80 Berwick St. For more information visit their website: www.karhuoriginals.com

Very interesting read. I run WLShoes.com, a website dedicated to weightlifting and fitness shoes. I never knew Karhu was the original trademark owner of the triple stripe, nor did I know they ever made Olympic lifting shoes.
