Watching Paint Dry #7: Everyone Loves A Sticker
Hello friends and foes, I trust you are all well. I’ve had somewhat of an insane week including a night detained at her majesty’s pleasure. Must have been me taking the piss last week, Karma’s a bitch. And she bites. However I’m a free man and still here to show you some of the streets highlights..
Something I haven’t really discussed so far is the wonderful world of stickers. London is covered in them, back of every sign, green boxes, phone boxes and pretty much most street furniture has got something slapped on it. Stickers are a great way to get an image or name out there fast and of course if you get caught, it’s only a sticker. You can whip a sticker back down pretty quick. And of course if you wanna take it to the next level you can still go big, and enter the world of the paste up (a larger paper image you stick up yourself using wheatpaste or whatever you can stick it to a surface with) again, the cops aren’t gonna get too angry if they catch you. It’s only paper guv!
There is many an artist out there who uses the sticker to their advantage. Some known, some unknown. The street art phenomenon of stickering has of course been thieved by the corporate masses over the years but nonetheless there is a ton of artists keeping it underground. From printed vinyls to hand drawn imagery the sticker is very much alive and well out here.. So to those who are slapping em up on your travels, keep on keeping on! we see you!
Here’s a few I’ve spotted on road this week…
Must dash, Until next week, stay up!
