Is a model a work of art?

She may be a rare as one- the full package of looks, talent and demeanour. But is she one of the great masters? IMG certainly thinks so. The international, top model and media agency has displayed their models’ most recent show package in an artistically inspired manner.

Each model’s card has a shot of them intertwined with a certain genre of art; a cathedral arch frames Marte, Andreea Diaconu poses between the thick black lines of a Mondrian, whilst Linnea’s face perches perfectly inside the hair into a piece of pop art. Their measurements lay blazen on a gold plaque at the bottom of each ‘work’, highlighting the unique compilation of attributes which they each hold. Not the artists’ name and date of the work, but the name of the model and her measurements.

The model, the pose, the look in their eyes is the one safe in the knowledge that they are priceless (or they’re certainly trying to be), just as any work of art. Is it any easier to put a price on a piece of art than a model?

No. Both share rare unattainable, inexplicable qualities which cannot be manufactured, and which lie in the mystical land of talent and creative genes. This season, designers will be booking the greats, in both senses of the word. So, IMG, touché, for the comparison.
