60 Years Strong, Who’s Up for a Party?
2012 is the year dedicated to all sorts of things – the London Olympics, the U.S. elections, the end of the world… And of course, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to celebrate her 60 year anniversary since her ascension to the throne.
This will no doubt be the biggest celebration in the U.K. of this year, and if you happen to be in London why don’t you go ahead to the Book Club’s Diamond Jubilee Street Party in East London, where they also held the Royal Wedding Street Party in April last year.
This demonstrative, fun and patriotic event will take place on the 3rd of June and will include music, food and naturally, plenty of drink.
Music from Guilty Pleasures DJ’s – who will be delivering the cheesiest, poppiest sounds to get you to boogie on down to your not-so-publicly-known guilty pleasures – the Hackney Colliery Band, which is East London’s best big brass band. In addition, Underbling and Vow will be giving us a good set of Cockney Knees Up, Amp & Deck will be giving it their all for the Queen, alongside Musical Bingo, and many more acts to be announced closer to the time.
The host and compere for proceedings will be London Fields Radio’s DJ Rev Milo Speedwagon.
Now, let’s talk food and drink.
Naturally, there will be enough fish and chips to go round for everyone, as well as burgers and other street food stalls for you to take your pick. The British theme remains with a real ale festival, which will have beers and ales from some of the best local breweries in and around London.
There will also be special Jubilee cakes created by Lily Vanilli – who has been deemed “The Queen of baked goods” by ES magazine.
Now the best thing of all; any of you who attend can guess the weight of the ‘Queen of all cakes’ and win it all for yourself (and share it out of course).
It will be like a village fete in the heart of east London, with lots of fancy dress, Union Jacks and theatre fun from Bestival’s Hurly Burly, as well as other entertainment. And if you are scared that by going to this fantastic street party you will miss out on the official Jubilee procession, not to worry, they will have screens so you can watch every bit of it whilst not missing out on any of the fun.
The Book Club will be hosting this FREE party on the 3rd of June, all ages are welcome – just get your wristbands over on their facebook page www.facebook.com/TheBookClubEC2 and you’ll be sorted!
