Introducing: LuLu James

LuLu James is part of the phenomenal new wave of RnB, soul, garage and hip-hop fusion artists. James’ pure, velvet vocals recall these ’90s genre influences – think Mary J Blige, or Morcheeba. She pours her voice into a sonic melting pot, lacing it with current production and 2012 deep synth beats. We put LuLu in the same league as AlunaGeorge, 14th, or Sonnymoon, which is less to try and create a sort of stereotype of this new urban electronic music and more to try and compliment these artists – they’re doing beautiful things with vocals and instrumentals but haven’t reached that chart success yet, but hopefully LuLu can change that. She’s playing at at The Sebright Arms this Thursday, and at The Great Escape festival in Brighton next weekend, so if you’re there make sure you check her out. James’ new EP, Rope Mirage, is beautiful, so listen to it below.
