EXCLUSIVE: Exlovers Mixtape

Feeling a bit crappy about being in the office/stuck in school on a beautiful sunny Monday? Here’s something to perk up your post-weekend pain. Exlovers have put together a music mood-board consisting of the best ’90s noise rock and shoegaze, genres which have clearly had an influence on their dream pop-come-heartache rock stylings. The mixtape includes one of my personal all-time favourite songs – ‘Just Like Honey’ by The Jesus and Mary Chain – alongside other classic ’90s tracks like Nirvana’s ‘Serve The Servants’ and ‘Sad and Beautiful World’ by Sparklehorse.

Exlovers’ debut album, Moth, is basically a sonic post-breakup diary that touches on sounds that parallel your erratic emotions whilst battling through heartbreak – from melancholy, to perseverance, to full-blown euphoria. But it’s not out until 18th June, so you’ll have to wait ’til then to listen to the whole thing. Get a taster of what bits of it may well sound like with their exclusive mixtape for PlanetNotion that you can listen to/download here. For the full tracklisting, see below:

Aphex Twin – Avril 14th
Mogwai – Batcat

Oh and look, here’s a video of Exlovers’ song ‘This Love Will Lead You On’ soundtracking some aerobics done in 1988. #RANDOM
