MPFree: Mike Doughty – Na Na Nothing

Mike Doughty is an established American singer songwriter who just so happens to be supporting the legendary Suzanne Vega on her UK tour this month. He was in the Warner Bros-signed band Soul Coughing throughout the nineties until 2000, when the decade of decadence apparently got a bit much for Doughty as he was becoming more and more affected by his crippling addiction to heroin. After quitting his habit, Mike started making music solo and has released over ten records since. In January he published The Book Of Drugs, a retrospective take on his phase of addiction.

Also this year he’s returned with a live album, The Question Jar Show and The Lo-Fi Lodge, an album to which fans could subscribe online and collect a total of 32 previously unreleased songs, one sent to their inbox on a weekly basis. Clever man, hey?

Catch Mike Doughty headline at The Borderline in London this evening. We’ll be watching him play at the Union Chapel with Suzanne Vega on Wednesday – should be a right treat. As a taster of what to expect, here’s a free download of ‘Na Na Nothing’.
