Album Review: Future Disco Presents – Poolside Sounds

It’s hard work pleasing everyone. Since Notion moved its office to swanky new pad opposite a castle (yes, really!) we’ve got an open-plan space that’s brilliant for everything except for music. The office has a wide variety of musical tastes from the sunshine reggae that wafts over from the sales desks to the hardhouse stylings of our technical department. Editorial will play anything (of course), but it was this compilation that won the hearts of literally everyone in the office.

But what made it stand out? I reckon it’s something about the selection of the smoothest tunes from the likes of Crazy P, Flight Facilities, Robag Wruhme and The 2 Bears, blended with older classics like the summer picnic anthem that is Yacht’s ‘Psychic City’. When it’s mixed together, and served over a sunny balcony, it’s literally the perfect record for, well, anything. I’ve played it at parties, in the middle of the night, by candlelight and for an afternoon of cleaning the house. I’ve played it at clubnights and relentlessly in the office and I’ve yet to find an occasion when it doesn’t work.

The only thing, in my humble opinion, that would make this record better summer listening would be if it came served with a Negroni on a hot summer day, next to an actual pool rather than the one I wish was installed on our office roof. Sigh. It is ESSENTIAL summer listening.
