My Moodboard: Dan Bodan
Dan Bodan is a new pop artist who writes rose-tinted electronic-instrumented songs of lost romance. We love his new loungey-paced track ‘DP’, the video to which you can watch here. To get to know Mr. Bodan a little better, we set him the task of creating one of our moodboards. Here’s what inspires Dan.
Arielle de Pinto
I’m pretty inspired by the stuff my friends are doing. Arielle’s my main girl, and she produces her own jewellery line of crocheted gold and shaped metal. She takes some extraordinary chances with the medium and produced a body of work with real guts. I’ve taken a lot of cues from her in life and in art.
Margaret Haines
I’ve known Margaret since university, and I’ve got to see her work develop over the years in such an awesome way. She’s finishing work on a feature film, Coco, that I think is a kinda retelling of Don Quixote. She just put out a book about the film Marjorie Cameron.
Julien Ceccaldi
Julien’s a Montreal based Comic Book Artist turned Designer. He custom paints these shirts, skirts and bags of hermaphrodite manga chicks shopping, fucking and loving. I love how it’s totally this old school DIY approach but totally tuned into what’s 2012.
Wet Looks
Wet Looks is a short film by Keaton Ventura. It’s been around for a while but just getting an official release through Sex Magazine in the next few months. There’s so much fresh in this film it’s insane. Amazing steez, good script and great soundtrack. Plus I’m convinced Danny Boyle totally stole the “text message effects” for the opening ceremonies from this film. Just sayin’.
Soundcloud
I hate making playlists to listen to, and I don’t really know what digital radio stations are decent. But I do love opening up my Dashboard on Soundcloud playing some random mix of my friends’ posts.
My Friends’ Music
I’m not a huge music geek anymore and I kinda only get whatever is filtered to me through my friends and acquaintances. So even though it might not have any immediate impact my my own work, the musicIi listen to a lot of is Slava, M.E.S.H. Lotic, T C F (craxxxurfm), DJ____Richard, DJ Sliink, H00dumentary and more!
Times
Times is an art space and bar opened in Berlin a year ago by Calla Henkel, Max Pitegoff and Lindsay Lawson. It’s been the centre of a really creative pool of kids in Berlin. It’s closing on september 5th, leaving a giant hole in the hole that is Neukölln. End of Times 2012.
Kater Holzig
Berghain is obviously the most famous all-weekend club in Berlin, but when I have to pick something else I choose Kater Holzig. It’s like a time warp back to Berlin 1999 or something. Great space, amazing sound system – and there’s no better place in the world I know of for people watching. Harajuku step aside.
YouTube Cooking shows
Food in Berlin is awful so I taught myself to cook pretty fast. Cooking shows on YouTube are my Favorite. They’re so seriously weird, but also incredibly educational. I move from one cuisine to the other after about a month – it makes dinner time so much fun! My favorites are Cooking with Dog, Betty’s Kitchen, Maangchi and Hot for Cooking.
Unicorn Kid
He’s totally trending right now but whatever, still think what he’s doing with his career is pretty amazing. Maybe it’s cuz I was a Kandy Raver when I was a teenager, or maybe it’s cuz he’s really hot. Whatever it is, it’s totally rocking my headphones. I wanna know if he directs his own vids – they’re so spot on.
