Our friends at Bosphorus Underground have caused quite a stir at Planet Notion with their latest release. Out today, Chris Lawyer’s ‘Do The Lawyer (Mezara)’ is one fakmetal banger you can’t afford to miss.
Anyone with an interest in minimal knows who Chris Lawyer is. By steadily developing his career and progressing his sound, this talented DJ and producer from Hungary has set out to show that the ‘American Dream’ needn’t only be achieved in America. In 2007 he released his first track (with Thomy) entitled We Gonna Feel It, which proved successful in charts across Europe as well as at the 2007 Miami WMC, being played by the likes of Roger Sanchez and Bob Sinclar. It reached the beatport top 100 house chart and continues to spark interest, inspiring several remixes over the past few years, including DjM’s 2011 remix which hit the traxsource house charts at #19 and DJ tunes overall charts at #36. However, in 2010 Lawyer began to focus on a solo career and created his first minimal track with Ton Def, Love Potion, released on Bosphorus Underground. This track quickly caught the attention of the minimal scene, reaching #36 in the beatport minimal chart, and signaled an interesting direction for Lawyer’s productions.
Lawyer’s relationship with Bosphorus Underground strengthened with the release of his album, Plum, in 2011. Plum received support from label leader, Ahmet Sendil, as well as Andrea Roma, Louie Cut, Min&Mal, Spartaque and Daniele Petronelli. Featured on the album, the unmistakable Right On Time reached #7 in the DJ tunes minimal chart, #44 in the beatport minimal chart and #1 in Hungary’s club charts. Lawyer has joined forces again with Bosphorus Underground for his latest release.
Do The Lawyer (Mezara) is instantly recognisable as a Chris Lawyer production. The track keeps the mind-rocking synth madness of Right On Time, the vocal effects of Sao Paulo (released on the recent Bosphorus Underground Fifth Year Anniversary Compilation and the voice of Femm who appeared on I Wanna Go on Plum. The Nigerian MC’s vocals are captivating. Lawyer uses snippets and sections to drive the track forward; whilst leaving the full expression for the breakdown, which is totally hypnotising. There is an interesting contrast between the two voices, Femm’s enchanting vocals and the phrase and snippets of “Just do the fucking Lawyer”, which instantly update the track, making it harder. It is a track that simultaneously hugs and punches you, being beautiful and hard. The music video highlights this juxtaposition well, rounding off a solid release.
Out today, Do The Lawyer (Mezara) is another impressive offering from Chris Lawyer and Bosphorus Underground. This track will sound killer blasting out of your favourite club’s sound system and you know everyone on the dancefloor would “Just do the fucking Lawyer”. After watching the video, we’ve got Lawyer’s moves locked and loaded for our next night out and we hope you have to. We challenge you not to have this track on repeat for the rest of the day.
Chris Lawyer, ‘Do The Lawyer (Mezara)’, is out now on beatport.
