There’s a helluva lot of music out there kids. And – controversial, perhaps – most of it is rubbish. And even much of the good stuff is easily dismissed in the relentless hunt for the newest, the biggest, the catchiest, the most over-the-top, the most controversial. It’s not easy being scene. So we had a bit of a listening session recently, and rediscovered the charming, bucolic sound of L.A. Salami. The London-based singer-songwriter is exactly that: no bells & whistles, he’s a folk-tinged musician with a talented lyricist’s quill. Take this ‘ere single, ‘The Scene’, for example. References abound in the lyrics to fictional characters, musical heroes and tales of industry schlock, over a homespun guitar riff and swept drums. It’s utterly endearing, beguiling stuff and shows that it’s not just kids with a pair of Korgs that can make brilliant music in 2012. Anyway, don’t just read my waffling, take a listen for yourself. It’s pretty impossible not to love…
