Detroit techno legend, Kevin Saunderson, sees his seminal piece of house history, ‘The Sound’, reworked with originality and admiration by the versatile Jay Lumen. Released on Toolroom Records, the track is available exclusively on beatport.
Originally recorded back in 1987, Kevin Saunderson has cited The Sound as one of his first really successful productions and also as one of his productions that he is most proud of. The track was a huge hit in New York’s Paradise Garage, in Chicago and Detroit and, after hitting the UK, it became one of the earliest Detroit anthems all around Europe. Kevin Saunderson remains a mainstay of dance music and is recognised as an all round pioneer; it’s no wonder his original infectious melody remains as fresh now as it did twenty five years ago.
On the remix, Jay Lumen respectfully reworks his own unique flavour onto the release whilst maintaining the qualities that made The Sound a huge underground record across the globe. Lumen’s intricate percussion patterns, spacious grooves, and fierce techno beats all come together alongside that bass hook to ignite clubs floors once more as Toolroom serves up a fresh offering of this vintage anthem.
A serious cut of cool club-defining house music, The Sound is an instant injection of authenticity into any set. Watch the dance floor ignite as these era-moulding grooves take hold once more.
