LFW predictions: handbags and purses

It’s hard to resist a good handbag, and this is something which designers always confirm when they make bags the highlight of a show. Some bag designs looked so hot last season that we just wanted to grab them as they came down the runway. Below are the top designers who had us drooling over their pretty purses and who we think show promise for the season to come:

MULBERRY

With a series of bags that looked just as amazing as those featured in its past collections, Mulberry shone the brightest in our eyes last season. The label has shown its consistent expertise at coordinating bags with its seasonal palette and fabric choices: last season saw the label match its bags with black, brown and occasional orange garments, whilst nudes and pastels were dominant for SS12. After the successful reception of both of these collections, we’re once again expecting to see Mulberry coordinate its bags with a palette mixing its trademark browns with a magical touch of brights.

SOPHIE HULME

Miss Hulme demonstrated a natural flair for coming up with minimal designs in the fall, which is why she’s made it high on our list this season. Square, inspiring and perfectly suited to tailored garments, the bag designs in her first LFW collection announced the current trend for clean-cut pieces. We’re expecting to see her bring back the minimalist trend, by putting a spin on her unique style with more summer-friendly hues. Dare we also hope for her to make another smart use of gold?

BURBERRY PRORSUM

Burberry Prorsum kept us on our toes last season, what with its ode to the very addictive oversize trend. With its strong British roots and willingness to take many majors trends a step further (from military for AW12, to tribal for SS12, to tartan back in 2011), we believe we’ll be seeing even more perfectly on-trend oversized purses, revamped to suit the Olympics spirit that’s still floating in the air.
