Silk, cotton, brocade or chiffon… sometimes, a good collection can transform into a magnificent one, and all it takes is the right choice of fabrics. These three designers set the bar high last season, and will be returning this spring with collections we know will surprise, stun and inspire the crowds.
Bora Aksu created a lovely feminine collection for AW12, experimenting with silks, cottons and wools that looked beautiful on the runway. His fabric selections helped bring his collection to life, as their textures and movement literally took our breath away. Following the designer’s claim that his main inspiration for SS13 lies in Romanian Queen Marie’s style and charisma, we can only assume he’ll be bringing the 1920s back and give it a modern twist. We’re expecting some printed fabrics to feature in his upcoming collection – something slightly baroque with a hint of florals, perhaps?
Willow’s AW12 collection put such big smiles on our faces that we couldn’t be more excited to see the label’s killer looks this season. By approaching denim and leather from a rather refreshing angle, Willow celebrated the strong, yet sexy woman with its last collection. Now, we’re waiting to see the label use loose, flowy fabrics, which will allow it to work some fantastic drapes and pleats into its spring dresses whilst keeping their appealing structure and modern cuts.
Aggugini’s AW12 collection combined so many fabrics and prints, that we weren’t quite sure where to first lay our eyes as each look made its appearance on the runway. From tulle to tweed to silk, the crazily juxtaposed fabrics were certainly eye-catching and, instead of being horrifyingly mismatched, blended together in ways that left us wanting more. SS13 is right around the bend, and we think we’ll be seeing an amazing mix of lighter, sheerer, more summer-appropriate fabrics from this designer.
