Club Beat #72 – PREVIEW: Windage, Black Snow/My Reality

Room 01 Recordings gets dark this Autumn with the release of Windage’s tracks, ‘Black Snow’ and ’My Reality’.

Black Snow is introspective and haunting. The layers intertwine and grow around each other to create a sense of space within the track. Although the eerie female vocals merge with the layers, they draw the ear; a point of focus in the texture around them. Added to this, the background sounds and the whistling that echoes throughout the track all serve to create a woodland soundscape, matched by the accompanying artwork.

My Reality maintains the haunting sounds and sensations, but takes them in a new direction. It is darker and less introspective than Black Snow, with its manipulated vocals at the start and the throbbing bass. The lines, “I like to remember things my own way” and “How I remember them; not necessarily the way they happened”, serve as a warning and explanation. It is the male voices in this track that trigger several questions about the female vocals in the previous one. The colder, less organic sounds are like an altered perception on the same events.

This is an interesting release from Windage and Room 01 Recordings. The beautiful and eerie Black Snow will make your yapping friends fall silent and listen in awe; whilst My Reality will get anyone up on the dancefloor.

Windage, ‘Black Snow’/’My Reality EP’ is released on Monday 24th September [].
