After the brilliant catwalk shows and presence of Tilda Swinton over the last few years, this season’s Pringle of Scotland presentation was always going to be lower-key. The luxury ambiance of Brown’s in Mayfair provided the backdrop, and the assembled crowds responded positively to the SS13 collection which consisted of a series of bright, simple cashmere pullovers and shift dresses, neatly-tailored separates and some lovely embellished tops. It might not have been the blockbuster show we were hoping for, but the clothes still had that essential Pringle classicness that makes them so popular. Everything was cut, sewn and finished to perfection, with a lightness of touch and simplicity of approach that recalled the highest-end Italian brands. It would seem that is that this presentation was a stopgap following Alistair Carr’s departure to McQ. Showstoppers aside though, Pringle’s SS13 is definitely one to take a closer look at, and here’s hoping that one of Britain’s premier labels gets its mojo back for AW13 with a new design director.
