Club Beat #79 – Kinky Malinki’s B’day Pt 2: Forza Talk Birthdays

Next Saturday, Kinky Malinki celebrate fourteen years as the premier clubbing brand. Achieving and maintaining this status in an ever changing and ever evolving London Town for fourteen years doesn’t happen by luck. It happens via dedication to providing great nights full of quality house music, attention to detail and a tongue stuck firmly in cheek. With long running residencies at Ministry of Sound and Pacha, as well as having spread their Kinky vibes more internationally in Marbella, Dubai, Croatia and Ibiza, it looks like more and more people are turning to the Kinky Way Of Life.

Kinky Malinki will be celebrating their 14th birthday with a stellar line up and a couple of thousand of their closest friends. Providing the tunes on the night are three of Italy’s finest DJs, Manuel de la Mare, Luigi Rocca and Alex Kenji, performing together for the first time in the UK as Forza.

In preparation for the birthday bash, we asked Manuel and Luigi some birthday-related questions:

Manuel de la Mare
If you were going to get Kinky Malinki a birthday present, what would you buy them?
A big heart full of love; you remember that video by Roger Sanchez?!

What is the best birthday gift you’ve ever received?
Well, I feel everyday is my birthday, and the gift is making music, playing in the parties and stuff like that!

Now that Kinky Malinki have reached 14 years old, they are obviously firmly in their teenage years. Can you recall one of your favourite memories of being a teenager?
Mmm… 14years? Honestly, it’s been a while! I don’t remember so many things. I was spending the time playing guitar and going around in the countryside with my friends; the normal lovely life in a small town in Italy.

Birthdays and cake go hand in hand. Steve Aoki and cake also go hand in hand, according to his rider. Have you thought of adding anything odd to your rider at all?
Something odd normally happens without the need to write it in the rider!

Are there any Italian traditions that take place around birthdays that differ to here in the UK?
Ah, I don’t think so, we just sing “tanti auguri a te” instead of “happy birthday bla bla bla”.

What’s the most memorable birthday bash you’ve ever attended?
What is a birthday bash? … Maybe we’ve found that difference between Italian and UK traditions?

Music is another important factor at a birthday party. If you had to pick a non-house DJ to play at your celebrations, who would you choose?
I don’t know many non-house DJs, but Madonna… I think she could do a good job!

Luigi Rocca
If you were going to get Kinky Malinki a birthday present, what would you buy them?
A 2 stairs cabriolet bus with a super sound system where we can play and go around the city for three days.

What is the best birthday gift you’ve ever received?
At my 18th birthday, my father gave me 500,000 Lire (around €250) as a gift for offering drinks to my friends during the night. I was on a holiday and nobody remembers nothing about the night, but I’m sure we all had a lot of fun!

Now that Kinky Malinki have reached 14 years old, they are obviously firmly in their teenage years. Can you recall one of your favourite memories of being a teenager?
At the age of 14 you can drive a 50cc motorbike on the streets in Italy. The day of my 14th birthday I was in Tuscany and I rented a motorbike (I was waiting for that moment so much!), despite my grandmother’s and my mother’s threats. Once I was on the motorbike, riding around Tuscany, I was feeling like a free man!

Are there any Italian traditions that take place around birthdays that differ to here in the UK?
I have never been to a UK birthday…after yours I will shout out the differences between the two!

What’s the most memorable birthday bash you’ve ever attended?
Probably the one I don’t remember…

Music is another important factor at a birthday party. If you had to pick a non-house DJ to play at your celebrations, who would you choose?
I will play at my birthday all night long!
