Quiquiriqui: London’s First Mezcaleria in Hackney

At this point in time, we’ll forgive you if you’re scratching your head and asking yourself just what a Mezcaleria is exactly. Well, with the launch of Quiquiriqui – located on Hackney Road – hopefully you won’t be clueless about this Mexican speciality for much longer.

A mezcaleria is a bar that sells mezcal; an ancient – but still very popular in its homeland – Mexican spirit that to quote Quiquiriqui’s website is “more earthy, more minerally, more fiery, more primal, more visceral, more grrrrr than most things you will have drunk before.” Strong words, indeed. Think: something along the lines of absinthe.
