Preview: Waxwerks, Leeds/Back to Basics 21st Anniversary

Occupying a void that greatly needed filling in Leeds’ music scene, Waxwerks – a specialist electronic music retailer by day; a club by night - was opened in the city earlier this year by Back to Basics residents Frenchy and Tristan da Cunha. In what sounds like a frankly lovely retail environment, while browsing the racks you can enjoy a cold beer from the bar, read blurbs from the staff about each and every record, and get said vinyl played over the store’s weighty sound-system.

On November 24th, the store will be hosting the second ‘Back to the Future’ party as part of Back to Basics’ 21st anniversary celebrations. The night will see the store transformed into a post-apocalyptic wasteland – with a futuristic dress code, to boot – which feels more than a little appropriate, given it being 2012 and all. DJs on the night include Chicago legend Chez Damier, Classic kingpin Luke Solomon, and the ever-elusive Maurice Fulton. You can grab tickets for the night, here; it’s sure to be a banger.
