Nashville’s John Stephen Suddoth – who produces under the moniker Mikky Ekko – creates evocative, ethereal pop music imbued with a deep sense of soul; something that may be attributed to a transient childhood spent following his preacher father across the southern US. His debut single ‘Pull Me Down‘ – which you can stream/nab a free download of, below – is a paean to the sacrifices we make for love; “So, pull me down if you want to,” he implores on the track, with more than a hint of romantic martyrdom. Produced by Michael Volpe (aka Clams Casino), it’s a hugely engrossing introduction to the young songwriter and one that leaves you craving more.
With Suddoth currently working on further tracks with a veritable A-list of collaborators including Paul Epworth, Dave Sitek and the aforementioned Volpe, hopefully there shouldn’t be too much of a wait for more material from this hugely promising purveyor of introspective pop dreamworlds.
