A Tree for an Electric Christmas

Set designer Gary Card had an interesting idea for a Christmas tree: make it out of car parts.  Using the Vauxhall Ampera, he made his “Electric Christmas” tree, which has just premiered at the King’s Cross Filling Station.

For this entire holiday season, the tree will be a lighted spectacle at night to delight and intrigue passers-by.  Card was inspired to make a tree he’d never seen before, and he’s definitely succeeded.  Gwendoline Christie and Giles Deacon unveiled the stunning display as a celebration of the end of the Vauxhall Ampera season.

The effect of the tree is fairly intriguing.  It looks like a pine that’s been patted down with snow at first glance.  But the smoothness makes it clearly inorganic, and is a bit jarring at first.  But the tree matches the vehicle it’s made from, which–besides just looking smooth–has extended range and thus runs smooth as well.  Head over to KXFS to check this out while you can.
