Club Beat #102: Best of Definitive Remixes 2012

Definitive Recordings round up a year of remixes with an eleven track compilation full of house and tech house floor fillers.

Now twenty years old (with a brief hiatus in the late 1990s), Definitive Recordings has really reached prominence over the past five or so years, continuing to push the mantra, ‘house music for all’. Label head and A&R man John Acquaviva has been joined by Olivier Giacomotto, touring and testing out those all-important demos, which eventually lead to chart successes. In 2010 alone, the label held forty-four chart positions on the Top 100 chart on beatport with releases from artists like Ben Lb, Da Fresh and Phunk Investigation. Definitive aims to be at the forefront of the ever-evolving dance music scene, delivering the vibe of the underground that made and makes club music what it is today. With this in mind, it is with great interest that we listened to their upcoming compilation.

The Best of Definitive Remixes 2012 is a compilation containing the label’s favourite remixes from their friends and resident artists. The tracks range from Superskank’s remix of the twisted and fun Reckless by Reblok, with its rave-inspired vocals, big beats and bass, to the chilled warm-up vibes of Superjunk’s Rindik, remixed by Matt Smallwood. Two Definitive mainstays, Jan Van Lier is joined by Dan Diamond on vocals for Bounce On It, remixed by Luigi Rocca, resulting in a hot tech house track with slick use of vocals and an infectious groove. Giacomotto’s remix of Damon Jee’s Sueno is the perfect winter warmer with its percussive rhythms. Our personal favourites include DJ Tonio’s huge remix of Umek & Olivier Giacomotto’s Wombing and Federico Scavo’s super-cool remix of John Acquaviva & Olivier Giacomotto’s summer sizzler, Feel Awright. This compilation is the definitive way to recollect the sounds of a successful year.

The Best Of Definitive Recordings 2012 is available from 14th December.
