News: BRITs 2013 Update

It just wouldn’t be a British February without the BRIT Awards gracing our screens and one of the ceremony’s most anticipated honours – particularly in music industry terms – is the Critics’ Choice Award; previous winners of which include Adele, Florence and, most recently, Emeli Sandé.

This year, the prestigious accolade is set to go to acoustic singer-songwriter Tom Odell, whose debut EP Songs From Another Love dropped late last year, with a full album due in the summer. Odell narrowly beat out Notion faves AlunaGeorge and soulful Birmingham songstress Laura Mvula to become the first male to scoop up the award, whose past winners read like a who’s who of recent chart successes.

Odell, who will receive his trophy on February 20 at the BRITs 2013 ceremony at The O2, had the following to say on the subject of his selection: “I’m thrilled and honoured to win the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award. I genuinely can’t believe it. Thank you so much. Looking at the list of amazing female artists who have won the Award already, I just hope I don’t let the boys down!”

Don’t worry, for those of you not privileged/lucky enough to be there, ITV will be broadcasting the festivities live. This year’s celebrations will also see the return of the British Live Act category and a new gong in the form of the Global Success Award, which honours the Brit artist with the highest international sales.

In the meantime, check out the video for Odell’s ‘Another Love’ in preparation for February 20th.
