Introducing: Jaws

It’s been hard to ignore the nascent promise of Birmingham’s Jaws in recent months. The garage-oriented, lo-fi four-piece were – alongside their hometown peers Peace and Swim Deep, both of whom they’ve toured with – pivotal to re-establishing Birmingham as a centre for shimmery guitar sounds and a particularly summery sense of alt-rock nostalgia in 2012. Recent singles ‘Toucan Surf‘ and ‘Surrounds You‘ both excelled as sepia-tinted, synth-laden depictions of a British lifestyle that – let’s face it – we wished was a bit brighter.

Jaws aren’t resting on their rapidly growing laurels, though; it’s looking like 2013 could be an even bigger year for the young group. Alongside their forthcoming latest single ‘Friend Like You‘ – a bittersweet paean to the people who truly earn a place in our heart, which you can stream below – there’s an accompanying bumper EP on the way, too. Milkshake, which serves as something of a career recap for the still blossoming quartet, contains both ‘Toucan Surf’ and ‘Surrounds You’, alongside their respective b-sides and the ‘Friend Like You’ single; it’s an essential introduction – or refresher – to a band that currently serve as one of the most promising proponents of British indie music.

And, here’s the recently unveiled video for ‘Friend Like You’ for your visual delectation:

‘Friend Like You’ and the Milkshake EP are released April 1 and 22 respectively, via Rattlepop. Pre-order Milkshake here.
