Interview: NeobotanicFashion

As part of a exploration into the exciting new designers that are seeking to develop in our fair capital, we will be catching up with five up and coming names across women’s clothing, jewellery and headwear all this week. Starting us off today is NeobotanicFashion, the brainchild of designer Olga Ankudinova; a botanical inspired brand that creates unique prints based on floral and plant motifs. With bright colours and bold shapes, this collection is for those who are passionate about fashion and not afraid to stand out from the crowd. Here’s what Olga had to say about it…

PlanetNotion: What led you into clothing design?
Neobotanics: The challenge of being innovative was the biggest thing that led me into clothing design.

PN: What do you do/ where you go to find inspiration?
N: My inspiration comes mainly from Fruits and Vegetables – I love working with natural forms and for AW13 we used apple seeds to create our prints.

PN: How would you describe your style in three words?
N: Modern, Colourful and Innovative.

PN: What sort of women do you design for?
N: The NeobotanicFashion woman is modern, experimental, creative and bright. I design for women who want to stand out from the crowd.

PN: Has the expansion to a men’s collection been well received?
N: Originally NeobotanicFashion was launched as luxurious, cutting edge men’s shirts and accessories line. The response for the men’s collection has been amazing and I hoped the success could be duplicated for the women’s line. SS13 saw the debut of our Womens collection and NeobotanicFashion presented this at Paris Fashion Week.

PN: What’s your favourite material to work with?
N: I have several favourite materials, these include – natural silk, cotton, organza and more experimental materials such a paper and plastic.

PN: Your collections feature stands out prints and bright colours; have you ever been concerned about how such bold items would be received?
N: The idea of bright colours and recognizable limited edition print is the main theme for my brand. I feel confident about experimenting with the colours, each season becomes a new experiment with new prints and new colours… For SS14 I am preparing completely new ‘pastel’ variation of NeobotanicFashion print which I cannot wait to share with every one.

PN: You’ve been part of London and Paris Fashion Weeks in the past – does that make any designer feel like they’ve cracked the industry or is there still a long way to go do you think?
N: Being a part of any fashion Week is very exciting and important event for each designer. It helps to grow their brands and to have a strong vision of what is in fashion. It also refreshes the mind and helps to keep the professional fit – it is something that makes you a part of the industry.

PN: If you could collaborate with or design for anybody in the future, who would be your number one?
N: I  would like to collaborate with Victoria Beckham, as I feel our aesthetics are very different and I would enjoy the challenge.

PN: What’s next for you?
N: Increasing brand profile and gaining more stockists.
