Track Premiere: Scrimshire – ‘Drift’ (Parts 1&2)

Dropping later this month on his own Wah Wah 45s imprint, Scrimshire‘s third full-length, Bight, is  a smokey, and at times lonely, voyage through the brains of one of the most eclectically-minded producers currently operating. It’s no wonder then that Bight draws on such a varied pool of influences; at one moment, it’s trading in ambient, almost folkie, meanderings, the next it’s underpinned by static beats, drawing it into another realm altogether.

Today, we’re delighted to bring you what’s quite possibly the album’s centrepiece in the form of the two-part suite that comprises ‘Drift’. The track’s first segment kicks off with a series of serenely floating, butterfly chords that dance atop a jazz club beat; complimented by several cinematic string segments, and rounded out by the man himself’s soulful, enigmatic vocals. The second half of ‘Drift’, meanwhile, holds on to the swooning strings of its predecessor but mutates them – care of a series of interpolating, static beats – into something grittier that still maintains the heightened sense of emotion previously cultivated:

Scrimshire’s ‘Bight’ is released May 27 on Wah Wah 45s. You can pre-order it here.
