Introducing: FTSE

Under the name FTSE, the Midlands’ Sam Manville has created a true work of art for his debut EP, FTSE 1. Playing and writing everything himself, the young producer employs the dulcet tones of Saint Saviour of Groove Armada fame on lead track ‘Tidal Wave‘ – a sultry, poignant duet to rival that of Gotye and Kimbra. ‘So Much Shine’ sees Manville’s deep, lulling vocals take centre stage in a minimal, alternative love note, before he hands the mic over to the enigmatic Kenzie May for ‘Float’, returning to his production roots with a focus on ambient textures, sweeping synths and techno pulses. Closing track ‘Consoom’ follows the EP’s commitment to thought-provoking lyrics, making a sharp comment on the modern crisis of consumerism. Made entirely using a cracked version of Logic, the one-man masterpiece is to be released on July 1st as a limited 12″ vinyl and download on Lucky Number. Catch FTSE’s debut live performance on June 20th when he opens for AlunaGeorge at The Electric Brixton.
